This photo was taken at the MN Landscape Arboretum in Chaska
and is the ceiling of the shelter in the Japanese gardens. Being one of my favorite areas on the grounds, I have sat in the shelter many times to admire the gardens and view the waterfalls, but I must confess, it is the first time I really noticed the intricacy of the ceiling.
The line pattern radiating to the wooden circle is actually centered on the ceiling. This off center orientation was much more pleasing to my eye than the centered versions I also shot. Horizontal is much more flattering to this shot, since it is meant to depict a peaceful setting.I shot this from 3 other vantage points, with this version being free of distracting elements in the corners of the small shelter.
I used a 50 mm focal length, with an F stop of 3.5, with 1/180 shutter speed. The ISO of 200 was fine for outdoors in the afternoon since even though it was cloudy, the white snow made everything brighter than usual. This area would normally be very dark during other seasons because it is sheltered by trees.
It was a bit of a challenge to compose the picture in the frame, as I wanted to get the heavy timber in the frame to give it weight and balance. I tried not to get anything beyond the lower edge since that would have been distracting because it is all trees beyond and a partial wall below it.
The position of the camera was quite angled, making it hard to keep steady and horizontal. I'm glad it was a fast shutter speed so no tripod was needed. I did need to steady myself in the snow and keep my arms braced on my torso to remain as motion-free as possible while angling the camera upward. I used manual focus so that the wooden circle would be sharp, leaving the forground twigs a little out of focus at the far edge, I liked the effect since it looks like they fade into the distance, reaching to the other timber beyond what is in the frame.
What I like about this picture is that it is organic and abstract all at the same time. It is about lines, and texture both due to the lined matting on the ceiling and the decorative twigs. The matting and the bark are very textural, and the bamboo very smooth. But it is the lines that are the attraction here. It has a harmonious, geometric feel due to the lines radiating to the circle and being monochromatic in color. I'm sure it is the Zen feeling they were going for when it was desigend to enhance the garden experience.
While the patterend rug at my home, and tactile cactus at the Arboretum Conservatory were fun to compose and shoot, they were not as challenging as capturing this photo. Those were done with the tripod at very close range, with short depth of field with autofocus, while this one required a steady hand and more thought about the composition and camera settings. I enjoy abstract art and symetry which I think is depicted here. I think it begs the question "what is that?"

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

that's what i say when bob pushes the button.

27 weeks, and 16 lbs later….
So far I am negative for gestational diabetes, and other basic blood work is good.
Bob and I are doing cloth diapers but will have seventh generation on hand in the beginning. I registered at wildflowerdiapers for the cloth diapers and we started to register at babiesrus. We spent hours in babies r us on Sunday and I thought we got all the big stuff done and some of the smaller things but of course we got home and realized we missed a bunch.
I doubt people will order diapers on line for me but I really hope they do because cloth diapers are a big expense in the beginning but save money in the long run. He’ll have to be in regular diapers for daycare though… ick… ick… ick… He may have to be in regular diapers until the umbilical cord is removed too because I hear the diapers I am getting are too high and may irritate.
I picked the colors for nursery. It will be a gorgeous blue with yellow trim. The rug that is in there now will come up and Bob will put down hardwood so we will need an area rug.
I am definitely not vaccinating for much of anything and not until Dylan needs to go to daycare which the way things are going will most likely be at 3 months. I feel sick to my stomach just typing that.
I am definitely making his baby food when the time comes. I can just have a food making day and cook/prepare Nash and Dylan’s food. I just can’t justify feeding Dylan food out of a jar that has a shelf life. It isn’t fresh at all.
I had a buyer for my house but I would have had to take a loss and would have owed 1700.00 at closing so I declined the offer but now wish I hadn’t. I need to get out of my house!!! Every month with it is about 2 months earlier that Dylan will have to go to daycare and if I do not sell it, he will be in daycare at 6 weeks! I made poster of my house and put a big SOLD across them and that is my new vision. I have one at work, one on my frig, and one in my bedroom. I will get an offer by Friday!

So that is my update.

I can not wait for the long weekend!!! I think I am finally getting the nesting instinct because all I want to do is get the house ready, so that is what Bob and I are doing this weekend. Not sure if he knows that or not but he should because of my slight nagging….
